Today, Brest State Technical University hosted the presentation of the collection of scientific papers "Atomic Soldiers," prepared based on the results of the International Scientific and Practical Conference of the same name, held last September. This conference was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the ground-based nuclear weapons test exercises at the Totsk test site.
Distinguished guests spoke at the event: Ivan Nikolaevich Shulga, Chairman of the Brest Regional Public Association "Valor and Honor," a veteran of the USSR Armed Forces; Raisa Ivanovna Telyakova, Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation; and Gennady Yegorovich Osipov, Chairman of the Brest Regional Organization of Veterans at Special Risk.
As part of the event, the university library organized a traveling exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the Totskoye exercises. Participants shared with students their personal memories of serving in the Strategic Missile Forces and meeting eyewitnesses of those events.
Particular attention was paid to the role of nuclear weapons in ensuring strategic stability. Participants emphasized that the possession of its own nuclear arsenal allowed the USSR to maintain parity in the global arms race and served as an important deterrent, preventing any potential attacks on Russia and Belarus.
It is worth noting that the conference proceedings have already been fully digitized and are freely available in the BrSTU repository.
